In addition, these goals will provide valuable input into the ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP. Preface. Each new generation of commercial aircraft produces less noise and fewer emissions per passenger-kilometer (or ton-kilometer of cargo) than the previous generation. However, the demand for air transportation services grows so quickly that total aircraft noise and emissions continue to increase.

The primary environmental impact areas of concern for aviation today are noise, air quality and water quality. Research efforts are underway on greenhouse gas impacts to understand directly attributable impacts to enable appropriate action.

Economic efficiency is already used both in the ICAO’s Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection and in the FAA’s own rulemaking process, which calls for cost-benefit analyses of proposals to issue new or amended regulations, expand airports, or modify airport operating restrictions.

Nowadays, besides safety issues, environmental protection is the main issue to be considered during the aircraft operations.
